Car parks to be sold as council aims to raise cash
Two council-owned car parks in Bradford are to be sold at auction as part of the authority’s efforts to balance its books and stave off bankruptcy.
The land to be sold is on either side of Pine Street, in the Little Germany area of the city, and has been deemed surplus to requirements.
The car parks are among more than 150 assets Bradford Council is disposing of in a bid to help balance its budget.
The 0.2 acre area to the north of Pine Street will have a guide price of £60,000, while the 0.36 acre car park to the south will have a guide price of £100,000.
The two car parks, located between Shipley Airedale Road and Bolton Road, are included as lots in an online auction to be held next week.
Last year, Bradford Council was granted “extraordinary financial support” by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to tackle its budget deficit.
That allows it to dispose of assets it owns in order to fund its running costs.
Other lots to be sold include a plot of council-owned land at Green Lane in Thornton and a fire-damaged terraced house on Rupert Street, Keighley.
However, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the sale of two other properties has been delayed, .
The Prince of Wales Park lodge in Bingley, which has a guide price of £160,000, will now be sold at a December auction.
Meanwhile, a 1.96 acre plot of scrubland on the A65 Coutances Way in Burley in Wharfedale is due to be sold in January with a guide price of £10,000.
