A Rare Ashley Olsen Sighting Provides a Lesson in Ultimate High-Low Dressing

Hark, the first glimpse of an Olsen in 2025! It’s Ashley Olsen, Olsening in a way only she and Mary-Kate can. (Despite the copycats and The Row flatterees.)

Photographed out in New York City, The Row founder was seen running errands in a long-line black puffer jacket, a gnome-like black beanie (both she and her sister are fans of tall headgear), a checked scarf, and black track pants tucked into grey marl socks. On her feet, she wore Nike V2K Run Sneakers—a sporty, out-of-step footwear choice for Olsen, who often opts for a ballet flat or sleek Mary Jane from her own label, or a Birkenstock clog. On her arm, she toted her brand’s enduringly covetable Margaux bag—quite the contrast.

But Ashley is a dab hand at high-low dressing and off-beat pairings: whether that’s a coat and flip-flop combo or twinning with her actual twin. While the stealth wealth emblem, the Margaux bag, has reached the upper echelons of desirability and virality, it’s also a pretty practical accessory for when you’re scooting about the city on a mission like Olsen. Then the Nike sneakers, with subtle detailing and a chunky, comfortable sole, makes more sense.

Sneakers can be a tough pick—especially when your overall aesthetic leans more light and feminine. This week, Bella Hadid leaned into the ’80s Jane Fonda dance class aesthetic, pairing a tank top and polka dot bodycon shorts with distressed Coach sneakers. The Row’s Owen runner has become its own street style favorite over the years, and it doesn’t look like we’re getting over the Adidas Samba OG anytime soon, beloved by everyone from Emily Ratajkowski to Kendall Jenner. Puma’s Speedcats are picking up on the track, with Dua Lipa fronting its campaign. And if you so happened to be at Copenhagen Fashion Week, you’ll have spotted Cecilie Bahnsen’s romantic ASICS collabs on all the cool girls’ feet. (Be quick, a new, floral-studded drop is coming from Bahnsen x ASICS.)

Both Olsen twins, too, are pros at dressing for the relentless cold: layering trenches and button-ups, expert layers, and knits. Even if a Margaux is a far-off dream, God knows we need Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s state of dressing pointers right now.
