Above average Wednesday, but Arctic air is back

Christmas Eve Forecast

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A brief brush with an area of high pressure will partially clear the skies for the rest of the overnight. However, waiting in the wings is yet an another of low pressure that will drag along with it an Arctic cold front that will first bring in some rain and eventually a dusting of snow. Wednesday afternoon and through the night, a weak clipper system moves into the Twin Tiers Friday. After that high pressure follows into the weekend.

Before the heavy and dense Arctic air comes back to the Twin Tiers to make the temperatures feel more like the north pole, we will feel slightly above average. Wednesday will be in the mid-40s, with overnights in the low-30s. Temperatures become more seasonable before the bitterly cold air moves in with overnight lows in the single digits for us early next week.

Tonight in the low-30s, dry and cloudy. Then mid-40s with clouds to start followed by a late, light rain/snow mix.
