All the Gifts GQ Editors Want This Holiday Season

These days, when I don’t know what to wear, it’s been easy to throw on a suit. I know Todd’s Wythe suit fits me the best, and in this winter-ready flannel, I might even be able to ditch a jacket (don’t worry, mom, I won’t).

Yes, it’s a “woman’s” sweater, but its shape and drape makes it perfect for my shorter torso, and that plush heavyweight cashmere is the only thing that’ll protect me from the winter chill.

I tried this coat on when I went to Rome, and it took everything in me not to walk out with it. It fit me so perfectly that even the sales associate had to bring someone over to look at it, and I swear she wasn’t doing that to make a sale. Now, if anyone has a few G’s lying around, I’m a size 46, please and thank you.

For years, I would wear shorts to the gym no matter how cold it got. I think I’m entering my cold old man era because that 10-minute walk to the gym in 30-degree weather has been rough lately. These sweats look like they have just the right amount of heft to not make me look like a schlub and the coziness is just a plus, especially when I’m mid-squat.

Though I’m a product of the sterling (but perhaps a touch unrefined) New Jersey public school system, prep is back, and if I’m going to make it in this new, loafer-y world, I need to pop this suit from J. Press into my closet ASAP. How else am I going to make it seem like my high school had a golf course?

One of the biggest reasons I’ve strayed from the Levi-clad days of my youth is the oh-so-perfect fit of these thirty-three-dollar jeans. So, I decided I want to try out a pair of Lee’s 101 Z Straights to see if they have that same great fit. Am I as savvy about selvedge denim as my esteemed colleagues? No—Orslow I thought. This holiday season, I’m getting in on A.P.C. the action to cement Our Legacy as a brand full of denimheads with a Kapital D.

I have worn the living shit out of my trusty pair of #063s for, like, three out of five days in the past year. They are, unsurprisingly for Blundstones, still very much intact. However, it’s primo hiking season right now—a.k.a. short walks in the woods followed by sucking down gallons of Hudson Valley beer—and I can’t be traipsing around the harsh wilderness of [checks notes] twenty minutes north of Yonkers in dress boots. That’s where these classic, ready-for-anything Blunnies come in.

Red Wing Heritage’s revival of these archival logger boots couldn’t come a second sooner. In celebration of the brand’s 120th anniversary, they come back in a beautifully pebbled leather and would look great with everything else on my wish list. Just saying…

I really hope there’s a German word for the distinct feeling you get when you slip into the hotel bathrobe for the first time. It’s the loungewear equivalent of Cinderella slipping her feet into those glass slippers. I’m trying to recreate that feeling for myself, which is why I’m so drawn to this Tekla bathrobe. There are several things I love about it, but the most important part is the heavyweight French Terry cotton, perfect for fall and winter.

I’ll be wearing this with a shetland sweater, a pair of vintage Levi’s, and Clarks Wallabees. Am I channeling Wes Anderson? Yes. Is that a bad thing? Hell no. I’m going to throw this on my wish list and pray to the menswear gods that this makes its way into my rotation.

These joints are inspired by old climbing shoes worn by dirtbags who probably trekked and climbed El Capitan. I’m sorry to say that if these bad boys manage to find their way onto my feet, the only thing they’ll be climbing is the step up to my local cafe, where I’ll shamelessly order my performative male matcha latte.

I’m on a personal quest to make the perfect flat white at home. Fellow is known for their top-tier electric kettles and coffee grinders, but I saw this espresso machine and my eyes jumped out of my head like a Looney Tunes character. Before you know it, I’ll be whipping up cappuccinos and lattes like your local barista.

I’m a huge advocate of “fancy sleep”—face mask, fresh sheets, matching set pajamas—but since my rotation of oversized men’s shirts (a.k.a., normal sleepwear) has only grown since I started working for a gentleman’s magazine, I find it hard to justify buying pajama sets. Can’t argue your way into buying it yourself? Throw it on a wish list.

I am in my fish era. I’ve been in my fish era for about three years, and there are no signs I’ll be stopping anytime soon. But you know what’s sorely lacking from my respectable collection of fish decor? A sardine tin set carved from wood that will perfectly harmonize with my TV console.

It’s an incredible record on its own merits, but I also happened to be in Barcelona the weekend it dropped, and I heard it everywhere I went, the whole thing hitting with a singular alchemy of time and place. A great gift for anyone with ears regardless, but for me, a memento of an unforgettable trip.

Bather built its name on swim shorts, but lately the brand’s been stepping it up in ways that feel unexpectedly great. Like this shirt, cut from patchwork fabric sourced from Japan. It reminds me something I thrifted once, and have been trying to find something similar ever since.

You know what’s not cute? Hat hair. I’m convinced the solve is a kerchief big enough to wrap around my big ol’ noggin. Labels far and wide are peddling their own versions this season, but Everlane’s take is the perfect pop of red and, mercifully for the gifter, extremely affordable.

This is not a joke: no fewer than three men came up to me to ask what brand this suitcase was the last time I was in the airport. One of them took a photo of it, asked how much it cost and then said to me, “Why can I never love cheap things?” And while it isn’t cheap, it’s definitely worth it. It’s made of super-strong aluminum accented by steel rivets—and you can absolutely shove enough clothing to outfit a village in this bad boy. Oh, and the handles? Italian leather. Even the inside feels like suede, but I don’t think it actually is.

If you’re a college football (or NFL fan, I guess), I feel like a good projector is an absolute necessity. Especially if you have outdoor space, this projector offers a 4K display that will make you think you’re in a theater instead of your backyard.

Believe me when I tell you, fancy pants can add a dressy element to any outfit. These are made of 100% mulberry silk, but they’re still durable somehow—I know because I haven’t picked them yet. All I want for Christmas is to wear pants that feel like pajamas and look super polished.
