An Indestructible Keanu Reeves-Approved Watch Is an Unbeatable 20% Off

You know the deal: There’s a bomb on a bus, Sandra Bullock is driving, Keanu Reeves is doing his action hero best, and Connor from Succession is somehow making things so much worse in the back seat. If you don’t know the deal, there are a whole bunch of reasons to watch Speed, not least to investigate just how much sexual tension you can eke out of a (deeply silly) domestic terrorism scare. Today, though, that reason is to check out one of the great watch cameos in movie history, courtesy of a G-Shock available for roughly $60 on Amazon right this second.

Even if it wasn’t featured in one of the best blockbusters of the ’90s, Casio’s G-Shock 5600 series comes imbued with serious horological pedigree. An evolution of 1983’s original G-Shock DW 5000C—first conceived by engineer Kikuo Ibe with a 10-year battery, 10-bar water resistance, and 10-meter drop-resistance (a.k.a. the “Triple 10” philosophy)–the 5600 iterates on the same square-cased aesthetic with a resin case, rubber strap, and 200 meters of water resistance. (I imagine its shock-resistance might be particularly useful in the event of ad hoc bomb disposal, but my journalistic curiosity only stretches so far.)

It’s been 31 years since Dennis Hopper’s animosity towards the Atlanta Police Department boiled over to public transport, so you won’t be too surprised to hear that the exact G-Shock DW-5600C-1V Keanu Reeves wears in Speed is no longer in production. That said, the DW-5600UE-1ER is widely available and more or less a dead ringer for the same watch. Better still, it’s currently available for $60 on Amazon—a 19% discount you won’t find via Casio itself.
