Anwar Hadid Is the Dark Prince of Farmer’s Market Menswear

In a sprawling metropolis like Los Angeles, there are only so many places where a celebrity can go to get a casual fit off and have it be seen. They can hit up Erewhon. They can dine at Nobu Malibu, Funke, or Sushi Park. Or they can go to the farmer’s market, which is the locale of choice for one Anwar Hadid, the 26-year-old baby brother of the Hadid dynasty.

At a pretty consistent clip on Sundays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., on the sanctioned-off pavement at Ventura Place between Radford Avenue and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Anwar can be seen at the Studio City Farmer’s Market, sipping a coffee or bottled ginger tonic and perusing the produce with his boys in a great outfit. For this semiweekly Sunday errand, he dutifully dons some combination of punkish, shadowy menswear—paint-splattered leather trousers, paper-thin tees, grubby-luxe Acne Studios jeans, studded belts, skullcap beanies, scuffed Dr. Martens, boyish messenger bags—to blissful effect.

Indeed, to be a Hadid is to be born stylish. If Anwar’s supermodel sisters, Gigi and Bella, have taught us anything, it’s that the world is their catwalk—and we, its awed spectators. At the farmer’s market, Anwar will typically greet the waiting paparazzi with eased petulance, throwing them a playful middle finger or sign of the horns. In exchange, the photogs always seem to get his good side.
