Biden to receive radiation and hormone therapy as next steps in prostate cancer treatment

Former President Biden is receiving radiation and hormone therapy as a new phase of treatment for his aggressive form of prostate cancer.

The former president, 82, was diagnosed with cancer in May after leaving office in January.

“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” Biden aide Kelly Scully said Saturday.

His cancer is “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” a statement from his office said back in May.

“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support,” Mr. Biden wrote in an X post in May.

President Trump said at the time he and first lady Melania Trump were “saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” in a Truth Social post.

“We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family,  and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” he said.

Mr. Trump questioned later why Mr. Biden’s cancer wasn’t diagnosed sooner.

The radiation treatment is expected to span five weeks, a source familiar told NBC News. He has already started taking a pill form of the hormone medication.

Mr. Biden had skin cancer lesions removed from his forehead last month.
