Bodies of missing French alpinists found in Mont Blanc massif

Two French mountain climbers have died in an accident in the Mont Blanc range, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

The victims are a 25-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man who had been missing since Friday, radio station France Bleu reported.

The Chamonix-based mountain rescue unit PGHM discovered the bodies at the foot of a ridge on the Aiguille de Bionnassay, a technically demanding area of the Mont Blanc massif.

The exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear. An investigation has been launched.

The Mont Blanc is a popular, but risky, destination for experienced mountaineers – particularly on high alpine routes such as the Aiguille de Bionnassay.
