Can We Just Make Pierce Brosnan Bond Again?
The real clincher, however, is Brosnan’s uncanny ease with tailoring, which has always been as much a James Bond signature as quippy one-liners and Q Branch gadgetry. In the last week alone, we’ve seen him in no less than three different tailored ensembles, ranging from a powder blue two-piece suit paired with a pair of polished chestnut brown Oxfords to a tone-on-tone cerulean look perfectly complemented by a pair of Carrera-style shades. Then, of course, there was the impeccably crisp white dinner jacket he wore to last week’s premiere of The Thursday Murder Club paired with a black-and-white microdot tie. None of these looks would be easy for the average guy to pull off, but thanks to impeccable fit and a light touch with accessories, your boy looks completely in his element every time.
Of course, one could argue that previous Bonds have all been played by lesser-known actors half Brosnan’s age, that the role requires a lot of running on top of moving trains and jumping between buildings, and that we should just let the man enjoy his elder statesman era in peace. Fair points, all. Still, as each prospective 007 candidate comes and goes, the more one wonders if what’s really needed here is a steady, assured hand at the Aston Martin wheel. At the very least, you know he’s got the look down.
