Chairman of Israeli-Druze center sets up protest tent outside PM’s office

Dr. Amir Khnifess, chairman of the Israeli-Druze Center, set up a protest tent outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem on Thursday. He is calling on the Israeli government to “take immediate steps to protect the Druze in Syria and provide urgent humanitarian aid.”

Khnifess said thatIsrael’s intervention in Syria came “too late and was insufficient.” “The State of Israel must act to prevent jihadist militias from sitting on the northern border,” he emphasized.

“In addition to solidarity and the commitment to defend and preserve the historic alliance with the Druze community, which has consistently contributed to the country’s security, Israel must prevent brutal Islamist groups from taking control of the northern border,” Khnifess stated.

Khnifess explained that “the fate of the Druze in Sweida is tied to their families and their connections to the Druze in Israel.” He added, “The blood on the Syrian border is a threat to the State of Israel, and the killing squads openly state: the next targets are Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and all of Israel.”

The chairman further said, “In the name of our blood alliance and historic covenant of life, just as we Druze stand on the security front to defend the State of Israel, the national home for Jews everywhere, I call on the State of Israel to continue to act on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Sweida, who are facing a genocide-style massacre, supported by the new president, Julani.”

All Jewish people are welcome

Khnifess concluded with a call: “All Jewish people are invited to come to the tent in front of the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem to stand in solidarity with the Druze people and strengthen the cohesion of our shared life alliance!”

Earlier this week, sources told Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath that security communication between the Syrian government and Israel had resumed, facilitated by the US and Turkey.

The sources also indicated that an Israeli delegation will visit Azerbaijan to reach understandings with the Syrian regime. They emphasized that the issue of Sweida is moving toward a resolution.

The sources noted that the Syrian regime was surprised by Israel’s response to the events in Sweida. Additionally, they reported that Israel has not promised to cease its strikes against Syria and is demanding a permanent presence in the buffer zones in Syria, in accordance with the 1974 disengagement lines.
