Couple start preparing for baby girl after gender reveal, have a boy

A woman in Canada had a surprise second gender reveal.

A video posted to Instagram by Kiaunne (@kiaunne) has gone viral for revealing that she had a baby boy—despite preparing for a baby girl since she was 20 weeks pregnant. Since the video was posted, it has received over 147,000 likes.

“Us preparing to have a girl since 20 weeks,” she captioned the video. “Had a boy. And we couldn’t imagine our lives without him.”

Kiaunne, 26, spoke to Newsweek about the shock reveal, and how she feels now having two young boys. She said that she was extremely excited when she originally found out she was having a girl at the 20-week mark.

“I was really excited, because we already had a boy, and I’ve always wanted one boy and one girl,” she said. But, despite her excitement, she had a nagging feeling.

“Deep down, I had a feeling it was a boy,” she said. “But also, the pregnancy was so different from my first, so I thought, yeah, I guess it is a girl!”

When she found out, she was two weeks past her due date. She had gone to get a checkup when the technician asked her what she was having. When Kiaunne told her she was having a girl, the technician had to break the news: “Well…no, that’s not right,” she said.

The second reveal was hard, Kiaunne said. She cried in her car for 15 minutes afterward, grieving the name she had picked out, and all the little girl clothes she had bought.

“She was real [to me],” Kiaunne said. “So, when the tech told me it wasn’t a girl, it was almost like I lost a daughter. But then, I got over it—and he didn’t come for another week after that.”

Kiaunne said she thinks the couple asked about the gender too early. Despite this, she is absolutely thrilled to now be the mother of two boys.

“I couldn’t imagine my life without my second son, and my first son loves having a little brother,” she said. “If we were to have another, we would definitely just wait until the birth to find out.”

Many in the comments were eager to let her know she wasn’t alone.

“They did this with my mom,” @jahleesaking wrote. “They told her my older brother was a girl, so she bought pink everything. He spent the first month of his life in pink.”

“The baby is just as confused,” joked another viewer. “I didn’t play. I did the genetic test,” added one user.
