Elkana Bohbot’s heartwarming story about life back from Gaza: ‘He forgot the rules of this house’

Rivka Bohbot, wife of former Gaza hostage Elkana Bohbot, shared a heartwarming story about how he is adjusting to life outside the Gaza tunnels.

The wife of the newly released former hostageElkana Bohbot shared that her husband was adjusting well to his return to freedom, though had forgotten many of the house rules and rituals he had once lived by.

Rivka shared in the Facebook group Mamatzhik, that her husband had been forgetting to do the courtesy of putting the toilet seat back down.

“I heard you missed me here, but I was busy shouting at my husband to lift the toilet seat,” she wrote and added, “After two years of captivity, he forgot the rules of this house.”

The Facebook group is described as the largest private women’s group in Israel and centered on humor. Rivka’s post quickly went viral, garnering more than 45,000 likes and 5,500 comments.

One of the women commenting said, “Just find reasons to scold him and you will be happy.” Another one pointed out: “I wasn’t expecting to get emotional by a post talking about a toilet seat.”

Bohbot’s mother shares torture from Gaza

Other stories that come from Bohbot’s inner circle are more difficult to learn. On October 21, a little more than a week after he was set free, Bohbot’s mother shared her son’s resilience, what she’s learned about his captivity, and how he’s started his recovery in an interview with N12.

“I don’t know how he survived,” she told Channel 12’s morning show. “He was bound, blindfolded, his hands and feet tied. He went through severe abuse, and I could feel it. He told me how he was in a pickup truck with Evyatar [David], Guy [Gilboa-Dalal], and Bar [Kupershtein]. He was lying on top of them and was beaten brutally in Gaza.”

“Elkana wants everything; he wants to fly from one place to another. He couldn’t believe everything that’s happening here. He watched TV there, saw me when his captors called him over to see me,” she said.
