Family devises hilarious method to ensure grandparents don’t miss a moment

When there’s nothing good on TV, one family found an unexpectedly wholesome alternative.

Carly Silverman, from Boca Raton, Florida, posted a clip on TikTok with her family gathered around the TV to watch her nephew on the baby monitor camera as he sings and calls out everyone’s names.

The 30-year-old wrote on the text overlay: “POV you’re the first grandchild and there’s nothing good on TV.”

Carly Silverman and her family were engrossed by the star of the show: her nephew.

“My entire family was home for the holidays, and we were all staying at my parents’ house which is always so fun being together, especially with my nephew. He’s the first baby of the family so of course he gets all of our attention 24/7,” she told Newsweek.

That evening, as the family awaited the Philadelphia Eagles’ game, they found themselves with nothing to watch.

“Every night when he goes to sleep, all the family members pass around the baby monitor to see what he’s doing. It was a late 8:20 p.m. game so we had nothing better to do and my sister-in-law had the smart idea to airplay the monitor to the TV so we could all watch him. It was truly more entertaining than any other channel,” Silverman said.

She asked the TikTok community in her caption: “Does any other families do this or is it just ours?” The clip clocked up over 756,000 views and almost 500 comments.

“I do this and my granddaughter is 200 miles away. My children gave me a link to her camera,” one user commented. “Is this show available on Netflix?” another joked.

A third user shared how her eldest son was the first grand- and great-grandchild in the family. “One day, I walked into the living room and my grandma, my mom and my sister were sitting quietly on the sofa watching him sleep,” they wrote.

The video even caught the attention of diaper brand Pampers which commented: “Nothing like live entertainment.”

Silverman told Newsweek that many other TikTokers said they could relate to this scenario: “Especially so many grandparents saying they love doing this!! I didn’t realize how many other family members do this too. Of course there were some negative Nancys who are judging and criticizing us for ‘invasion of privacy’ but I can’t be bothered about that.”
