FBI employees ordered to dig for Jimmy Hoffa-related documents

The Trump administration has ordered FBI employees to immediately search for any records relating to the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.

Hoffa, head of the powerful Teamsters union, was 62 years old when he was last seen outside a restaurant in Michigan on July 30, 1975. He was later presumed dead.

The FBI has searched to locate Hoffa’s remains over the years with no luck.

Hoffa went to federal prison in 1967 for jury tampering and fraud and was pardoned by President Richard Nixon in 1971. As an influential union leader with great electoral sway, the pardon was on the condition that Hoffa not return to the union movement before 1980.

In a July Fox News segment featuring Hoffa’s son, James P. Hoffa, he asked President Trump to release all FBI files tied to his father’s case.

The recent order, first reported by CNN, comes as FBI employees have been pulled away from other assignments to work on topics like immigration enforcement, countering violent crime and redacting files associated with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

FBI employees had received a similar order to search for material relating to the disappearance of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, according to reports.
