Gantz considers joining Netanyahu’s government to push through Gaza hostage deal, MK confirms
His decision would counter expected opposition from National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich.
Blue and White chairman MK Benny Gantz may return to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to support a Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, KAN News reported on Wednesday evening.
His decision would counter expected opposition from National Security MinisterItamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich.
Blue and White MK Alon Schuster spoke to KAN Reshet Bet later on Wednesday. During his interview, Shuster corroborated the report, stating: “Currently, there are no talks about joining the government, but if we understand that this is what will lead to the release of hostages, then that’s what we will do. What do they expect? That we let the hostages die?”
Gantz’s ‘safety net’ for Netanyahu
Gantz previously held consultations regarding providing a “safety net” for the coalition, though he had not discussed formally entering the government.
“The government has a clear majority and a wide safety net to bring back the hostages,” Gantz wrote on X/Twitter.

“Netanyahu, this is not a time to hesitate – this is a time for making the right decisions for the people of Israel and Israel’s security.”
During Gantz’s first meeting with his faction after former MKs Gadi Eisenkot and Matan Kahana left the party in July, he said Blue and White would not join Netanyahu’s government.
