This matchup has not taken place since 2011 but still has 118 occurrences in the past, with Texas leading the series with a 76-37-5 record. The longest win streak in this matchup belongs to Texas, with the Longhorns winning 10 games in a row over Texas A&M from 1957 to 1966. The last time these two programs met, Texas won 27-25 in what was an exciting matchup between two high-level quarterbacks, Colt McCoy and Ryan Tannehill.
That’s all in the past, however. Now, Texas will be looking to keep its place in both the SEC and national standings. The Longhorns are 10-1 on the season with their lone loss coming on Oct. 19 at the hands of Georgia. Aside from the 30-15 setback against the Bulldogs, Texas has been dominant in its first campaign in the SEC, most recently defeating Florida 49-17, Arkansas 20-10 and Kentucky 31-14 heading into this huge matchup with Texas A&M.
Texas A&M, meanwhile, is a solidly impressive 8-3 this season but is coming off losses in two of its last three games. The Aggies fell 44-20 against South Carolina on Nov. 2 and 43-41 against Auburn last weekend heading into this matchup with the Longhorns.
This game won’t take too much selling but either way, Texas and Texas A&M resuming their rivalry after 13 years is good for college football. Catch the Lone Star Showdown at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
