Internet sobs over how blind rescue cat searches for owner

A cat parent’s solution to letting her feline into the office without damaging her working material has melted hearts as it gives both her and her blind cat the best of both worlds.

Donna runs a business called Terra Mater where she makes candles, wax melts, stickers, home decor and more. Assuming people wouldn’t want cat hair in their orders, she wanted to keep her cats out. She told Newsweek via email that she didn’t want to risk bad service or negative reviews with a little bit of cat fur mixed in by letting Archie, her blind cat, into the office.

“No matter how much you vacuum or sweep, there will always be hair around with long-haired animals,” she said. “In addition to that, there is a lot of equipment in there that could cause a potential injury to a blind cat.”

She set up a baby gate to keep her cats out and to avoid fur getting into her material. However, she couldn’t stand seeing Archie pawing at the gate, begging to be let in. Viewers of her June 26 TikTok posted to her account @theblindcathouse, were also sobbing over Archie’s cries to come into the office.

Even before the gate, Archie would cry and scream outside the door. He expects to be with Donna at every moment because that’s what he grew accustomed to while recovering from his eye-removing surgery.

But luckily, Donna came up with a solution to accommodate his needs and keep her business clean. She bought a cheap tent online and used other materials on hand to create a portal that allows Archie to come in and out as he pleases.

The entrance starts at the gate where the opening leads to a tunnel and then a tent in the middle of the office. This allows Archie to get as close as possible to Donna without jeopardizing her business materials.

She carefully led Archie through the tunnel with the lure of treats. And it doesn’t look like too shabby of a place to be. The tent is filled with fuzzy blankets and pillows.

What started as a temporary solution is still up, Donna said. However, she finally let him in without the tent the other day and he fell asleep on top of a wicker basket in the room.

“I can focus on what I’m doing if I know he is asleep and safe.”

But if he ever gets the need to explore, she plans on placing the tent up. She’s hoping he will realize that coming into the office means he needs to stay in his own space.
