Israel Police admit concern over increasing number of officers driving under the influence
All officers were sent a letter on the matter, which stated that anyone working for the police caught driving under the influence could likely be fired.
Israel Police leadership is concerned about the rising issue of officers caught driving under the influence, N12 reported on Saturday.
All officers were sent a letter on the matter, the report added, stating that anyone employed by the police caught driving under the influence would likely be fired.
“The offense of drunk driving is a serious offense, which carries many significant risks for road users, and sometimes even carries tragic consequences,” wrote Alona Shoshan, head of the police’s human resources department, in the letter.
“As police officers, we are required to be extremely careful about the observance and implementation of the provisions of the law.
“The police have zero tolerance towards police officers who drive under the influence of alcohol. A police officer who is caught driving drunk is required to immediately report to his commanders,” the letter continued.
Additional breach of protocol by Israeli officers
Earlier this week, Israel Police’s Lahav 433 Commander, Asst.-Ch. Meni Binyamin was questioned for a suspected conflict of interest during an investigation into the Bakri crime organization.

The Police Investigation Department (PID) imposed restrictions on him, including a ban on contacting other parties involved in the case.
His questioning followed an incident in which the PID detained him at the beginning of this month. His attorney, Uri Korb, said that the PID “chose to violate the law, to detain and then even unlawfully arrest Binyamin.”
