Jeremy Allen White Is Already Dressing Like the Boss

If you want to dress like Bruce Springsteen, we recommend starting with his go-to base layer: a clingy, diaphanous, low-scoop-necked tank top. (That said, a red paisley bandana wouldn’t hurt either.) Kicking off the press tour for Deliver Me from Nowhere in Rome on Friday, actor Jeremy Allen White—who spent the duration of the film’s production not only trying to dress like the Boss, but emulate him, too—got the tank top just right.

The celebrity red-carpet trend of “method dressing” isn’t new for White, though he probably wouldn’t claim it in those exact terms. Speaking to GQ last year, the actor claimed that he wasn’t really “a fashion guy,” but admitted that elements of Carmy, the character he plays on FX’s The Bear, had leaked into his personal wardrobe: “In a sense, Carmy’s uniform of work pants and a T-shirt is more my—Jeremy’s—style. In that sense, our styles sort of bled together,” he said at the time. Though subtle, the same symbiosis seems to be taking place between White and Springsteen’s styles.

In Rome, White—with the help of his stylist, Jamie Mizrahi—wore his loose, clavicle-bearing Louis Vuitton ribbed white tank under a striped blue shirt with a contrasting white collar. (To make it truly Boss-level, all that was missing was a tear or a pit stain.) Layered on top was a ’90s-style black leather blazer. As usual, White’s best accessory was his fresh-out-of-the-shower mess of curls, which bring to mind Springsteen’s boyishly out-of-control tendrils.

This isn’t the first instance of Springsteen-esque garb finding his way into White’s wardrobe. In Madrid earlier this week, the actor sported a pair of all-American blue jeans and a literal blue-collar work shirt—with, of course, a slip of tank top peeking out. If White continues on this ’80s-era Jersey boy trajectory, we can only hope to get a glimpse of bandana soon.
