Lady Gaga Revives the ‘Artpop’ Aesthetic in New Tom Ford

This particular shade felt both modern and nostalgic, recalling the brighter, vibrant, statement-making aesthetics of Gaga’s Artpop era—Artpop being Gaga’s third studio album, released in 2013—where the singer’s color palette dashed across electric violet, acid yellows, and cerulean, in looks that dabbled in subversive suiting, and sculptural, body-contouring silhouettes. But with Ackermann’s vision, there’s a contemporary sense of polish here.

Gaga has been an ardent follower of Tom Ford across all of her eras—wearing the house’s designs just as much as Balenciaga (and Gaga is Demna-era Balenciaga-obsessed) for multiple red carpet and awards events. She also appeared in the the house’s ever-iconic spring summer 2016 fashion film.

The seafoamy suit is a welcome spark of color for Lady Gaga, who has stuck to a gothic and monochromatic sartorial rhythm for the last little while. Through The Mayhem Ball tour, Gaga has opted for biker gang leathers via Saint Laurent, Vaillant, and Zeynep Arcay, with military-influenced looks by Balmain, and Matieres Fecales feathery bodysuits. Off stage, you’ll often find her in sky-high Louboutins, chunky boots, and all-back Balenciaga staples. Last week, Gaga and Polansky—who got engaged in September 2024 and shared the story first with Vogue—stepped out together for dinner in Paris wearing contrasting looks.

With the Australian tour leg in sight—and Aussie summer—will Gaga inject the rest of the rainbow into her wardrobe? TBC.
