Local couple reacts to Israeli hostage return
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Wave Nunnally and his wife Lacey have spent a significant amount of time in Israel over the past two years.
They say today, as hostages return, is a day they’re ‘infinitely excited’ about.
“We’re now seeing the results of lots of people’s prayers and tears and concern and demonstrations and all kinds of organizing and planning behind the scene. We are infinitely excited about what’s happened today,” Wave Nunnally said. “We’re hoping that this is the beginning of something big for the Middle East and that peace will resonate throughout the region and not just be limited to a return of the hostages.”
The Nunnally’s have visited Israel several times in the past two years, as the tensions between Israel and Hamas have escalated in recent years.
“The day that we flew in, more than 3,000 rockets were shot from the Gaza Strip into Israel proper,” Nunnally said. “We walked into a hotel that was almost completely empty, and by the time we left, a week and a half later, it was totally full of refugees who had been brought there in big buses because of the devastation caused by the October 7th attacks.”
Nunnally adds that as the peace talks progress, even with a previous peace agreement months ago having fallen through, he’s hopeful this leads to a long-term agreement.
“I’m just grateful that the hostages are home. That at least takes one card off the table, one poker out of the fire. One less thing to have to worry about, but going forward, maybe it breaks down, maybe it doesn’t. You know, there’s a hope inside the human heart that everybody can experience peace in their lives,” Nunnally said.
Nunally tells Ozarks First he has plans to return to Israel as soon as November.
