Man charged with luggage theft from Gatwick Airport

A man has been charged with the theft of luggage from Gatwick Airport.

John Brooks, of Crawley, West Sussex, has also been accused of criminal damage.

Sussex Police said luggage was reported stolen from the airport’s South Terminal on 30 October, at around 6pm.

A suspect was seen leaving the terminal’s Zone A area via the Southern Walkway and Ring Road, towards the B2036 Balcombe Road.

A spokesman for the force said: “A man has been identified and charged as part of a police investigation into the theft of luggage from London Gatwick Airport.

“Police issued an appeal to identify a man they wished to speak with in connection with the offence.

“We can confirm officers arrested a man following this appeal.”

Brooks, 52, is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 25 November.

Gatwick Airport, which was opened as a commercial airport by Queen Elizabeth II in 1958, served 43.2million passengers in 2024.

It is currently the busiest single-runway airport in Europe.
