Menswear’s Favorite Old-Money Jacket Just Went on Sale

As expected, Amazon Prime Day is rife with pedestrian deals on home goods, kitchen appliances, and headphones. There’s plenty of bargain-bin menswear in the mix, too, but the discounts rarely extend to anything all that unexpected. The vast majority of the closet-filling closeouts are a little, well, basic—think sweats, tees, and skivvies, with the occasional Puma sneaker or Lacoste polo in the cut. There are rare exceptions, though, and today, those exceptions include one of menswear’s most iconic jackets, 25% cheaper than usual.
In this case, that jacket happens to be the Baracuta G9 Harrington, a.k.a. The Thomas Crown Affair special, a.k.a. the king-making King Creole, a.k.a. the jacket worn by Frank Sinatra, James Dean, Steve McQueen, and a staggering number of other stylish dudes in the GQ orbit.
Even if you didn’t know what the G9 was called before reading this, you’re probably familiar with its work, cinematic and otherwise. Aside from looking great on everybody, everywhere, it remains one of the most versatile layers in the great pantheon of light jackets, supporting countless A1 outfits since the British heritage label started making it back in 1937.
A plain white tee, washed blue jeans, and scuffed black boots? Check. A rumpled Oxford shirt, pleated chinos, and mirror-shined loafers? Tried and true. A fraying vintage crewneck, roomy sweatpants, and well-worn Birkenstocks? C’mon, now—you really got to ask? (That’s an emphatic yes, FYI.)
Part of that versatility comes to down to sheer pedigree—Baracuta, after all, has been crafting its house-speciality jacket for close to a century, never deviating too far from the recipe over the years. In 2025, the G9 Harrington jacket is still made in the UK from a wind-busting, precipitation-defending cotton blend—lined with its signature splash of tartan—and equipped with a two-button dog-ear collar, flapped handwarmer pockets, and a distinct umbrella-back yoke.
Still not convinced? We like all those details so much we enlisted a few of our colleagues to give you a close-up look at the whole package—and that was months before we knew it would be approximately $100 less expensive. (We’re especially partial to the navy version spotlighted above, but Amazon’s discount extends to its tan counterpart, too.) Make moves quick to secure your own, or mentally kick yourself every time you see another picture of McQueen on your feed.
Prime Day FAQ
What are the best menswear brands on Amazon?
For affordable fashion across the board, Amazon’s got the goods. If you’re after basics, look to tried-and-true labels like Gildan, Calvin Klein, Russell Athletic, and Kirkland Signature. On the footwear front, you’ll find everything from Adidas sneakers to Red Wing boots to Allen Edmonds dress shoes. The watch selection is equally stacked, with classics from Casio, G-Shock, Seiko, and even the occasional Tag Heuer. And when it comes to sunglasses on Amazon, don’t sleep on Ray-Ban, Chimi, and Oakley. With more and more inventory from Shopbop (Amazon’s fashion-focused subsidiary) making its way onto the platform, Amazon’s menswear lineup is deeper than you’d expect.
Do I need to be a Prime member to shop Amazon Prime Day?
Bad news on that front: You definitely need a Prime membership to avail yourself of the deals. (They get us all in the end, huh?) If you made it this far without signing up 1) Kudos! 2) Where do you panic-order your toilet paper? 3) You’ll probably be okay without a membership going forward. If you’re desperate to get in on the Prime Day cologne deals, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial here.
How long do the deals last?
For as long as we can remember, Prime Day has been a two-day event. Not this year. In 2025, you’ll have four full days to shop the breadth of Amazon’s discounts, which begin the morning of July 8 and end the evening of July 11.
Do Prime Day deals change each day?
Yes, Prime Day deals definitely change each day, sometimes even by the hour. Amazon rotates in new discounts across all categories (tech, clothing, home, you name it), so what’s here today might be gone tomorrow. Some deals only last 24 hours, and others sell out even faster. If you see something you like, it’s probably smart to grab it before it’s gone.
