MLB Playoffs: Dodgers Eliminate Mets, Will Face Yankees in World Series
The World Series matchup is set.
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Mets in Game 6 of the National League Division Series on Sunday. They will return to the World Series to face the New York Yankees, a matchup of two storied franchises who haven’t played each other for a championship since 1981.
Game 1 is Friday at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers’ 10-5 win over the Mets at Dodger Stadium was closer than the final score suggested. The Mets scored a single run in the top of the first inning, but lost it on a two-run double by Tommy Edman off left-hander Sean Manaea in the bottom of the first — the first lead change in any game of the six-game series.
Edman’s two-run home run in the third inning off Manaea, followed by another two-run homer by Will Smith, gave the Dodgers a more commanding lead at 6-2.

New York rallied twice to bring the score within three runs, at 6-3 and 7-4, but the Dodgers exploded for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Blake Treinen, the Dodgers’ seventh pitcher of the game, was credited with the save after recording the final six outs.

Los Angeles will appear in the World Series for the fourth time in the last eight seasons, but not since their championship in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season.
The Dodgers were able to celebrate a pennant-clinching victory on their home field for the first time since 1988. That year, they also beat the New York Mets en route to a World Series victory over the Oakland A’s.

The Dodgers’ win Sunday coincided with the 36th anniversary of their championship-clinching win over the A’s.
The Dodgers and Yankees have played each other in the World Series on 12 occasions. From 1941-81, the teams met each other 11 times for the championship, but their reigns of success have never lined up since.
The Dodgers clinch the NL pennant at home for the first time since 1988.
The dream matchup is happening. Dodgers vs. Yankees for the 12th in MLB history and the first time since 1981.
Great day for LA, great day for baseball.

“The Yankees have a really good team with a lot of good players and really good coaches,” Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani told Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal through his interpreter after the game. “I’m really looking forward to playing against them.”
Edman went 2 for 5 with four RBIs. Teoscar Hernandez and Ohtani both went 2 for 4 for the Dodgers. First baseman Freddie Freeman, who has been nursing a sprained ankle throughout the postseason, got the day off, but Chris Taylor made the most of his rare chance in the starting lineup with a 2-for-3 performance.
