NBA Free Agency: 76ers To Reportedly Sign Multi-Time All-Star
The first free agent signing of the offseason that saw a player switch teams occurred. Center Andre Drummond has agreed to a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers that is worth $10 million. He gets a player option for the second year of the deal. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype was the first to have the news of the two-time All-Star heading to Philadelphia.

Drummond spent last season with the Chicago Bulls and was part of trade discussions at the trade deadline. Chicago opted to hold onto him rather than move him, and now he leaves for nothing. For the 76ers, this gives them a solid big man behind center Joel Embiid. Drummond is a good rebounder, leading the league in rebounding four different times throughout his career. The former ninth-overall pick has bounced around the league a little bit over the last few years but now lands back with the 76ers.
He isn’t unfamiliar with the 76ers, as he spent the 2021-22 season in Philadelphia. Drummond played in 49 games for the 76ers, averaging 6.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. His familiarity playing alongside Embiid and guard Tyrese Maxey will likely help any transition into the team. Drummond has been around the game for a long time and understands that he can still produce for a winning team.

Right before the news, Drummond took to social media to make a cryptic post. The big man has a sense of humor and showed it in his own announcement of his news.

This is the first move for the 76ers in what is expected to be a game-changing offseason. Philadelphia has a lot of cap space to work with and is expected to be a big player in the free agency market. Drummond, along with their second-round draft pick Adem Bona, fills a significant need for the 76ers. He was one of the better big men available on the free agency market, so the 76ers were quick to grab him.
Philadelphia general manager Daryl Morey has never been shy about going after the home run move throughout his career. If the 76ers can add some legitimate talent to surround Embiid and Maxey, it would vault them into true contender status in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers were bounced in the first round of the NBA playoffs this past season by the New York Knicks in six games. More moves are expected from the 76ers as the offseason continues.
