NFL Announces Multiple Schedule Changes For Week 8
The NFL has announced changes to the schedule for Week 8 of the 2024 season. The league has moved the Philadelphia Eagles-Cincinnati Bengals game on Sunday, Oct. 27 from the 4:25 p.m. ET time slot to the 1 p.m. ET slot. The NFL has flexed the Chicago Bears-Washington Commanders game from the 1 p.m. ET window to the 4:25 p.m. ET slot, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Eagles-Bengals game will now reach 70 percent of the country, while the Bears-Commanders will earn a spotlight in the late afternoon window. CBS will broadcast the Bears-Commanders game with their No. 1 broadcast team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo.

The Bears and Commanders have been promoted to the 4:25 ET time slot thanks to a strong start from rookie quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. The game will now showcase the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft going up against the No. 2 overall pick. Both quarterbacks are also former Heisman Trophy winners, and likely favorites to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. This is expected to be a highly anticipated quarterback matchup.
This game also features two teams that have surpassed expectations to start the season. Both the Bears and Commanders have begun the year 4-2, emerging as contenders early in the year.
Daniels has put in a stellar start to his rookie season. He has completed 75.3 percent of his passes for 1,404 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions, as well as rushed for 322 yards and four touchdowns. Daniels has steered Washington to commanding wins over the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, and Cincinnati Bengals, and appears to be the franchise’s answer at quarterback.

Williams got off to a slower start with the Bears but has begun to find his groove offensively. Williams and the Bears have recorded over 35 points in each of their last two games, albeit against the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars. After throwing two touchdowns and four picks over his first three games as the defense carried the team, Williams has thrown seven touchdowns and just one interception during the last three games, including four touchdown passes against the Jaguars.
Not only will this Bears-Commanders game feature two promising young quarterbacks, but potentially affect the NFC playoff race.
The NFL has yet to flex any of their Sunday Night Football matchups this season. The Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers will play on SNF in Week 8, which is expected to draw great ratings, and likely Bears-Commanders did not get flexed to the primetime window.
