‘Oslo on steroids’: Naftali Bennett warns foreign Gaza control would endanger Israel’s security

Bennett criticized the potential involvement of Qatar and Turkey, referring to such a move as the Oslo Accords on steroids.

Former prime ministerNaftali Bennett warned against the transfer of security control in Gaza to foreign or multinational forces, saying the move would threaten Israel’s security, in a statement on Thursday.

“Transferring security control in Gaza to multinational forces, some of them hostile like Turkey, endangers Israel’s security,” Bennett said.

He criticized the potential involvement ofQatar and Turkey, likening it to the Oslo Accords. Bennett said, “Handing control over our fate to Qatar, the financier of Hamas, and to Erdogan is Oslo on steroids.”

Referring to the October 7 massacre, Bennett said that Israel must not “fall asleep and hope for the best.”

He argued that the IDF must maintain operational freedom “to mow the grass, to deal with threats when they are small, before they turn into terror monsters like we saw in the South and the North.”

‘The State of Israel is not a protectorate’

Bennett also questioned reports of external oversight of Israeli military operations.

“How did we reach a situation where our soldiers need to request approval from the American headquarters in Kiryat Gat?” he asked. “The State of Israel is not a protectorate.”

Calling for transparency, Bennett demanded the “immediate publication of all commitments and concessions being crafted behind the backs of Israel’s citizens.”

He asked for what he described as the “open or hidden motive” behind any government decision “to give up our security and our freedom of action.”

“The citizens of Israel deserve full transparency regarding their security,” he concluded.
