Owner not prepared for why golden retriever changed favorite spot on couch

A mom has revealed why her golden retriever has moved from his prime sitting position on the couch since she had a baby.

In a video which garnered 639,400 likes and 3.1 million views on TikTok, Erica Derise, 28, showed how her dog used to sprawl out on his back across the gray-colored couch.

When her son Frankie, who is a year old, came along Beau (@beaunosebones) changed his favorite resting spot to the other side of the couch, seemingly to watch over his human brother’s crib.

“Beau and Frankie’s relationship is so genuine. As soon as Frankie came home from the hospital Beau instantly made a connection with him. He is his protector 24/7.

“Beau is the first one that rushes into his nursery every morning. They love each other so much and I can’t wait to see their relationship grow,” Erica Derise, 28, from New Jersey, told Newsweek.

The video shows Beau nestled with his head over the side of the seat just inches from Frankie’s play crib. This is followed by a montage of the duo playing with a stuffed shark, gazing at each other lovingly as well as Frankie kissing his canine brother on the nose.

Beau came along first in the pecking order with Erica and her partner Frank Derise,31, taking him in when he was an 8-week-old pup in April 2021. He is now 3 and has taken to brotherhood exceptionally well.

“Beau is a very happy golden retriever. He’s extremely loyal to us and just an all-around loving dog. He makes every day better for our family and we couldn’t picture our lives without him,” Derise told Newsweek.

Golden retrievers are well known for their friendly temperament, especially around children, according to the American Kennel Club.

However, some dogs can have some difficulty accepting new family members since this can be confusing and disrupt their routine, according to Dogs Trust.

The British dog rescue charity recommends several steps to make sure your pooch can acclimatize to having a new little friend.

It suggests: setting up new equipment before the baby arrives, playing baby noises, introducing baby smells and introducing routine changes such as shorter walks or less interaction.

Social media users were left overcome with emotion from the endearing interaction.

“I can’t with dogs and babies,” Sell said. “Just knowing that they’ll grow up together makes my heart break in the best way,” wrote another user.

“Oh how I love golden retrievers .. especially with their tiny human bestfriends,” Bethany said.
