Pair of golden retriever “best friends” greeting each other melts hearts

A dog owner from Los Angeles filmed her golden retriever greeting his best friend who lives just next door, and internet users can’t cope with their sweet relationship.

In the heartwarming clip, shared on TikTok in December by @emilygraytful, the two pups can be seen running toward each other as soon as they step out the door, exchanging nose kisses while wagging their tails.

“My golden is best friends with our neighbors’ golden and they always say hi to each other when we pass their house,” reads layover text in the clip. The caption says: “A modern day Romeo & Juliet.”

Many owners of single dogs wonder if their pups need a canine companion in their lives, and the answer to this question may come as a surprise.

According to an article by the pet wellness website Hepper, medically reviewed by Dr. Lorna Whittemore, dogs do not need to play with other dogs but can benefit from spending time with them.

Hanging out with other dogs can help your pup learn social cues and burn excess energy in a way that it’s unlikely we as their owners can provide. However, some dogs don’t like other canines, and while it is normal for some, you can ask your veterinarian or animal behaviorist for help socializing them.

Socializing your dog takes lots of time and patience, and it’s much easier when they’re still puppies. A Dogster article, medically reviewed by Dr. Paola Cuevas, explains that being positive throughout the training is crucial because dogs easily pick up on our emotions, and seeing you angry can make them nervous.

Instead of going straight to a dog park, it’s best to start introducing your pup to one single dog first, keeping interactions short and sweet and, most of all, supervised at all times so you can step in if they start displaying aggressive behaviors.

Giving them rewards for desired behavior and avoiding punishments will also help make this process easier.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has received over 1.2 million views and 252,000 likes.
