REI’s Sale Calendar Got Lost in the Wilderness

If things feel a little busy right now, buckle up: the annual REI Holiday Sale is officially live, and things are about to get a lot busier. For context, this is pretty much the only time of year when REI offers insane deals on its entire assortment of outdoorsy gear. And that means that if you’re in need of basically anything that might prove useful outside, and also like saving up to 30% on said anythings, it’s go time.

What kind of assortment are we talking about? Approximately 8,000 products, if you like data. If you’re more of a visual learner, though, think a preposterous amount of trail-ready shoes, super-warm puffers, adventure-friendly clothing, and pretty much anything you’d like to take with you when you leave your apartment for either a moment or an extended period of time.

If you see something you like, don’t hesitate too long: while the deals are guaranteed, the inventory isn’t. Wander into the wilds of REI for yourself or scroll down to see what we’re feeling.

Outerwear Deals

The North Face

Terra Peak Insulated Hoodie

The hoodie moniker you’re seeing is based on the profile of this jacket—which is slimmed-down and layer-friendly—but don’t let that fool you, because something like this is built to withstand conditions far worse than a February commute.

Arc’teryx

Delta Pullover Hoodie

There are fleece-lined hoodies that aren’t as warm as this feather-weight joint from the masters of lightweight insulation.

Fjallraven

Expedition Pack Down Hoodie

Big Puffers tend to steal the spotlight when winter gets rolling, but when it comes to actual utility, there’s nothing that can top one that’s both mid-weight and amenable to some layering (like this one is).

REI Co-op

Trailmade Rain Jacket

A sub-$50, rain-stopping, ultra-packable shell has a home in just about any coat closet, regardless of what kind of shape your bad-weather lineup is in at the moment.

Clothing Deals

Patagonia

Natural Blend Retro Cardigan

One of the most universally beloved fleece’s in history hasn’t aged a day, but that price tag is very much on a timer.

Mountain Hardware

Summit Grid Big Grid Hoody

The maniacs at Mountain Hardware turned “Snug as a Bug” into a portable concept.

Patagonia

Lightweight Synchilla Snap-T Fleece Pullover

You’re probably familiar with the work of one Patagonia’s all-time workhorses, but that price is a new wrinkle entirely.

Columbia

PFG Tamiami II Long-Sleeve Shirt

Parents don’t bat 1.000 when it comes to leading by example, but dads everywhere got this one right.

Shoe Deals

Salewa

Wildfire Leather Approach Shoes

Your trail shoes can have a little safety orange. As a treat.

La Sportiva

TX4 EVO ST Approach Shoes

There are roughly two dozen tech-related reasons you’ll see these scuttling up Half Dome in large numbers, but they also happen to look great with a pair of mid- to dark-wash denim and a winter coat.

The North Face

ThermoBall Traction Mules V

Call them sleeping bags for your feet, call them podal puffers, call them whatever you want—just know that you’ll find an excuse to wear these daily if you have them nearby.

Keen

Jasper Zionic Sneakers

The iconic Jasper still crushes, but if you’re looking for a little (or a lot) more traction and some subtly upgraded technology, this particular remix is calling your name.

Gear Deals

Osprey

Stratos 34 Pack

You might think all backpacks are the same, but about 15 seconds with one like this on your back will make you understand what all the fuss is about.

Gordini

Spring Gloves

As someone who lived in a ski town for years and exclusively used spring gloves, I will say that a good pair of spring gloves—lightweight, easier to hold things with—will also keep your hands warm during the winter.

Yeti

20 oz Rambler Tumbler

I’ve put ice cubes in one of these on a Monday and on Wednesday they were still clanking around.

Nemo

Moonlite Elite Reclining Backpacking Chair

Sure, this will elevate a campsite, but unpacking this up for an afternoon at the park would feel electric.

REI Cyber Week FAQ

Does REI have a Black Friday sale?

Technically, no. REI famously shutters its doors on Black Friday as part of its #OptOutside campaign—a genuinely good-guy move that encourages everyone to spend the day anywhere but a checkout line. But make no mistake: REI still runs a sizable sale around the holiday stretch, with plenty of deals on gear, apparel, and outdoor essentials. So while you won’t be shopping on Black Friday itself, the REI “holiday sale” is very much on.

What are the best things to buy at REI?

Pretty much anything you’d want on your back (or in your pack) before heading outdoors. Gear, clothing, footwear, accessories: if it upgrades your time outside, REI probably stocks it. Think hiking boots, rain shells, tents, insulated layers, trail runners, winter coats, and climbing shoes.

The co-op leans heavily on the legacy heavy-hitters of the outdoor world. Think Patagonia, The North Face, Arc’teryx, Salomon, Merrell, Osprey, Smartwool, Black Diamond, MSR, and the like. It may not always have the buzziest next-gen gorpcore upstarts, but when it comes to tried-and-true brands built to survive actual weather (and not just a microtrend), REI is still the gold standard.

This year in the US, Black Friday is on Friday, November 28, a day after Thanksgiving. While that’s the official date, many retailers roll out deals throughout November. You can expect the biggest discounts to happen between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, but be on the look out for retailers to launch sales early.

Cyber Monday lands on December 1 this year, the Monday after Thanksgiving. Most brands keep the deals rolling through the week—but don’t bank on it.
