Just days after winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, Kalidou Koulibaly has suffered the loss of his father on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Sad news has struck the Lions’ den in Senegal. Captain Kalidou Koulibaly is mourning the passing of his father, Dabele Koulibaly, who died Monday morning in France. Originally from Ngano, a village in the Matam region, Kalidou Koulibaly has always maintained a deep connection to his family’s homeland.

Born in France, the current Lions captain made the significant decision in 2015 to represent Senegal on the international stage—a choice rooted in family and emotion. Today, the Senegalese football family stands in solidarity with Kalidou Koulibaly and his loved ones during this difficult time.

“The passing of Kalidou Koulibaly’s father, captain of the Senegal Lions, occurred this Monday, January 26, 2026, in France. The FSF offers its deepest condolences to his family and to the entire Senegalese football community. May his soul rest in peace.” announced the Senegalese Football Federation.
