Several detained in Israel after information leak from PM’s office

Israeli authorities have detained several people on suspicion of leaking secret information from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, Israeli media reported on Friday.

The reports were made after an investigating judge partially lifted a news embargo on the case.

The judge said the leak could jeopardize Israel’s military objectives in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu’s office rejected media reports that its own staff were among those detained.

The prime minister said the news embargo should be immediately lifted. “It only serves as a cover for the malicious and intentional denigration of the prime minister’s office,” the government’s press office said.

According to the media reports, the Israeli domestic secret service Shin Bet, the army and the police are involved in the investigation.
