Sharveal Johnson: Building an Independent Music Empire with Gospel, Hip-Hop, and R&B
Sharveal Johnson, formerly known as Chevy J, hails from Chicago, IL, where his musical journey began in the soulful halls of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, guided by his great grandmother, Mary Robinson. Despite initial reluctance to pursue music, a high school showcase performance at Miami Beach High, alongside childhood friend YN, sparked his passion. Their talent caught the eye of Atlantic Records, but Sharveal’s family, valuing education and understanding of the music business, encouraged him to focus on school, setting the stage for his independent career.
Sharveal’s love for music was ignited by gospel, with early inspirations from his great aunt Cynthia Beck. His exposure to 90s R&B through his mother, Dinina Johnson, solidified his passion, driving him to create music that blends the soulful essence of gospel with the vibrant beats of hip-hop and R&B.
Looking ahead, Sharveal envisions a future of peace and success, both personally and professionally. He aims to expand Chuck Cymone’s JDU TV network to a billion subscribers, a goal fueled by Chuck’s influential role in his life. Sharveal dreams of achieving unparalleled success in the music industry, with aspirations of topping the Billboard charts, amassing billions of streams, and creating a global community of fans and followers. His vision extends to owning vast lands, producing a book and movie series, and becoming a motivational speaker, all while maintaining a strong foundation of faith, love, and trust.
In a groundbreaking achievement, Sharveal & The PNB Empire Records Family is also making history as the first Black-owned independent record label to secure a liquor brand deal independently with Smoke Lab Vodka. This accomplishment underscores their innovative spirit and determination to break barriers in the industry.
Beyond music, Sharveal cherishes his role as a single father, finding joy in supporting his children and watching them grow. He enjoys basketball, nature walks, hiking, tennis, golf, and painting, all of which provide a peaceful balance to his bustling career.
Sharveal attributes his success to his confidence and execution, comparing his approach to music to basketball, where he aims to score like Stephen Curry. His dedication to his craft, from voice training to stage performance, ensures that every song is a hit and every show unforgettable. Guided by his faith, he believes in his boundless potential, with a firm conviction that through Christ, he has the strength to achieve anything.
Currently based in Atlanta, GA, Sharveal is building his brands and the new record company, PNB Empire Records. He continues to captivate audiences with his eclectic musical style and is set to release his first R&B album, “11:11 (New Beginnings),” and his first mixtape, “IDGAF,” showcasing his commitment to innovative musical storytelling.
