Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,274 answers, hints and clues for Saturday, December 14
Happy Saturday folks! The weekend is finally here, but there is no rest for Wordle players, as there is another puzzle to solve.
The brainteaser was invented by Josh Wardle, a Welsh-born software engineer based in New York City. He perfected Wordle during the COVID-19 lockdowns before releasing it to the masses in October 2021.
Following its public debut, the game exploded from 90 users on November 1, 2021, to 300,000 on January 2, 2022. The New York Times purchased it for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, and soon after, it became the publication’s most popular game.
A large part of Wordle‘s appeal is its simplicity. If you’ve never played before, players get six attempts to guess a five-letter word. Gray tiles behind each letter indicate that they are not in the word at all; yellow means the letter features but is in the wrong position; while green lets players know the letter is in the word and in the correct place.
There is no time limit, so you’re free to spend your Saturday mulling over what the answer could be.
Linguistics expert and Babbel Live teacher Noël Wolf previously told Newsweek the word puzzle sparks “daily conversations” among players and “offers a daily break from our high-paced lives.”
“The small victories that Wordle provides may also contribute to a feeling of achievement over time. Wordle keeps things simple and interactive, allowing users to learn almost without realizing it,” Wolf said.
The answer to today’s Wordle will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll with caution if you want to work it out for yourself.
