Top Red Sox Insider Casts Serious Doubt On Chances Of Alex Bregman Signing
We have bad news for Boston Red Sox fans hoping for their team to sign Alex Bregman.
The Red Sox have been connected to Bregman since the start of the offseason. Some reports indicate Boston is the likeliest landing spot for the star infielder; others suggest Bregman’s desire for a long-term deal could force the Red Sox to prioritize a trade for Nolan Arenado.
The Bregman-Boston rumor mill took another interesting turn this week, with former big leaguer Carlos Baerga claiming a deal was close and Red Sox superfan Jared Carrabis insisting otherwise. Top insider Chris Cotillo weighed in on Wednesday, casting doubt on the chances of Bregman landing with the Red Sox.
“Reading between the lines of (Carrabis’) stuff on this I don’t think anyone should feel super confident right now,” Cotillo wrote on the X platform. “But that has been a tough market to gauge all around.”
Bregman, who’ll turn 31 in March, arguably is the best hitter left in free agency.
The two-time All-Star hit .260 with 26 homers and a .768 OPS in 145 games last season for the Houston Astros. He also won his first American League Gold Glove Award at third base.
It’s unclear whether Boston would sign Bregman to play third base or move him to second base.
