Tyler, the Creator Adds Another Unusual, Unlikely Watch to His Collection

More than arguably any other celebrity watch collector, Tyler, the Creator knows exactly what he likes in a timepiece. Over the past few years, the rapper has shown an unparalleled devotion to Cartier’s idiosyncratic silhouettes. A kindergarten class could learn an entire curriculum’s worth of shapes from Tyler’s wrist: He’s worn the rectangular Tank, the curvy Crash, and the spherical Pebble. Over the weekend, however, Tyler swerved from his typical Cartier cache while remaining committed to offbeat contours.

Mr. the Creator wore a diamond-shaped piece from Pierre Lannier to Variety’s annual Hitmakers brunch. (Hat tip to writer Brendan Cunningham for spotting it.) At first glance, the watch looks like one of the rapper’s many oddball Cartiers: the gold case, elegant Roman numerals, and unique shapes are all hallmarks of the Parisian jeweler. But while Lannier also hails from France, the brand is best known for making cheaper, design-focused watches—think of it as French Citizen.
