University explores link-up with Malaysia college

A Dorset university has announced talks on a collaboration with a college in Malaysia.

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) said it would hold discussions with University College Fairview in Malaysia over “future creative and arts education engagement”.

AUB specialises in courses in the creative industries such as acting, computer animation, graphic design and fashion.

It follows Bournemouth University launching its first Joint Institute in China earlier this month.

Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding, a joint statement by the two universities said the goal was not to “not to recreate AUB in Malaysia”.

“While the creative industries operate globally, educational collaborations need to be locally grounded and adaptable to be successful,” it said.

Leaders from the two universities will hold talks in the coming months to explore “emerging opportunities” in the region.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth University’s partnership with Tianjin University of Technology will enable students in China to study four Bournemouth undergraduate degrees from its campus on the country’s northeastern coast.

Up to 1,000 students a year will study courses including data science and artificial intelligence, delivered by academics from both institutions.

In September, the first students enrolled on two degrees provided by the university – in tourism and event management – at British University Vietnam.
