Watch Fanum Try Caviar for the First Time
For one afternoon in New York City, Fanum went from “Yes, chat” to “Yes, chef.” In the first installment of GQ’s new “chaotic fine dining” video series Fanum Goes Gourmet, the streaming star and media personality takes over The Corner Store, the buzzy Soho restaurant favored by celebrities and foodies alike. With the restaurant’s bartender James Saito on hand to roll out the red carpet, Fanum gets to sample the menu’s biggest and brightest hits, from sumptuous dessert strawberries (which Fanum poetically describes as tasting “like good memories”) to dry-aged steaks flown in from Denver.
But beyond getting to have his way with every course, Fanum also gets to go behind the scenes and literally see how the sausage is made with Corner Store culinary director Michael Vignola. It’s in the kitchen that Fanum gets to have his first taste of the food item that symbolizes eating well more than any other: a nice dish of caviar. The experience is enough to make Fanum clasp a hand to his mouth—briefly and uncharacteristically at a loss for words—before dropping all pretense to gleefully describe it as “releasing all flavor into your mouth.” Chef Michael also teaches him how to make lobster rolls, and invites him back later to make an ice cream dish.
Check out the video, and if you haven’t been to The Corner Store yet, be warned that watching Fanum fall into a tasting-menu wormhole will have you racing to Resy immediately.
