WNBA Rescinds Angel Reese’s Technical Foul That Led to Her Ejection
WNBA rookie and former NCAA star Angel Reese has been in the headlines plenty, with many involving her opinions on the popularity of Caitlin Clark. Reese and Clark have been rivals since their collegiate days, with the pair meeting in the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Their rivalry appeared to heat up at the professional level, with Reese taking subtle shots at Clark via social media and speaking to reporters about her own popularity leading to the record viewership numbers in the WNBA.

Reese has made it known that she is also a star, and it would be hard to argue against that. However, she is also still a rookie in the WNBA, and showcasing emotions on the court could lead to swift punishments.
During Tuesday’s game between the Sky and New York Liberty, Reese was in a scuffle where she appeared to reach in on Liberty guard Jonquel Jones. Officials stopped the play and gave Reese a technical foul for her appearing to disagree with the referees.
Her ejection led to many confused looks from both the Sky and Liberty players, and even the commentators calling the game were not quite sure who was being thrown out. Reese was ushered off the court, and her ejection was met with boos from the crowd.
Reese was apparently given a second technical foul, leading to her being thrown out of the game.
Players often argue with referees on calls, and it doesn’t generally lead to ejections. However, officials believe enough happened to warrant her second technical foul and being removed from the game.
The WNBA has since corrected this issue and rescinded the second technical from Reese’s record.

A reporter from the Chicago Tribune, Julia Poe, revealed the news on her X page. Reese garnered much support from her ejection, even receiving an offer to pay her ejection fine from NBA star Lonzo Ball.
Reese responded to Ball’s support, thanking him for stepping in to call out the ridiculous nature of her ejection. It appears the WNBA felt the ejection was not warranted, and decided to step in and remove the second technical foul anyway.
Reese has already gotten fined by the league after the Sky and Indiana Fever faced off on June 1. The Fever won the game with a close score of 71-70, and Reese did not make herself available to reporters at the end of the game.
Reese was fined $1,000 for not complying with media availability rules, and the Sky were fined $5,000 for the same reason.
