Yankees Can Land $50M Star For Top Prospect In Blockbuster Trade Proposal
The Chicago White Sox are willing to move their star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. if they receive the right trade return. Chicago is rumored to be searching for young position players in return, although it may be tough to get the package it desires.
There will be, and have been, plenty of suitors for the young outfielder. Robert clubbed 38 home runs and stole 20 bases in 2023, though his 2024 season was lackluster at best. One of the teams that could make sense as a trade destination is the New York Yankees if the Bronx Bombers miss out on Juan Soto.
MLB Network’s Anthony Castrovince pitched quite the blockbuster trade that would send Robert to the Bronx. Instead of pitching a return that involves multiple top prospects from the Yankees’ system, Castrovince kept it simple. He suggested trading top prospect Jasson Dominguez for Robert.
Here’s the full deal pitched by Castrovince that would swap Dominguez for Robert:
- New York Yankees receive: OF Luis Robert Jr., LHP Jake Eder (No. 22 prospect)
- Chicago White Sox receive: OF Jasson Dominguez (No. 1 prospect)
“The Sox give up a star to bring in ‘The Martian,’ who technically meets my “big league requirement in these deals by having seen time in the Majors in both 2023 and ’24,” Castrovince wrote. “The Domínguez Hype Machine took a bit of a hit after he sustained an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery in 2023, then had an unremarkable (and very brief) 18-game sample with the Yanks last season. That New York opted to play the struggling (Alex) Verdugo over him in October perhaps says a lot.”
Somehow, Castrovince may have pitched a trade that wouldn’t get cleared by either side.
Chicago is looking for multiple players in return for its stars. The White Sox need a complete organizational overhaul. That isn’t going to happen by trading one of their only valuable pieces in a one-for-one type of trade. Chicago is looking to add two, three or even four prospects in a deal for Robert.
As for the Yankees, Dominguez has been untouchable up until this point. The Yankees even avoided dealing him for Soto when they brought him in from San Diego. Dominguez is much cheaper for much longer than Robert. Trading him now in a deal like this would make no sense for New York.
This trade proposal gets a big “no” from me. New York could make a move for Robert, but it won’t come at the cost of its most coveted prospect.
