American tourists bound for France accidentally boarded a plane to Africa – Their response: ‘Where’s Tunisia?
Two American travelers ended up 500 miles off course after boarding the wrong flight—turning what was supposed to be a jaunt to the French Riviera into an unexpected detour to North Africa.
In a series of TikTok videos shared by Brittney Dzialo (@brittneydzialo_), she recounted the misadventure that began in Rome, Italy, where she and her friend Hannah were scheduled to fly to Nice, France. But something went awry.
Brittney captured the moment they asked a fellow passenger to confirm the destination—only to learn they were en route not to Nice but to Tunis, Tunisia. (“To Nice” sounds very similar to “Tunis”).
“Where’s Tunis?” Hannah asks, visibly confused, as they pull up a map on her phone. A flight attendant soon confirmed their unexpected itinerary: they were, indeed, heading to Africa. Another crew member advised the pair to stay on the flight and arrange a transfer to France once they landed in Tunis.
After consulting with airport staff in Tunisia, Brittney and Hannah were eventually rebooked to France—though they were frustrated to have to pay for the re-route, claiming the mistake stemmed from a miscommunication with an airline employee in Rome.
In a follow-up clip, Brittney joked about the travel trauma, captioning a video of them boarding their new flight: “The airline employee misheard us and booked us a flight to Tunisia, Africa, instead of Nice, France. The whole plane witnessed our spiral and either found it entertaining or hated us.”
Another video shows the two explaining the mishap to airport personnel in Tunis. “We missed the flight, so the airline employee in Rome rescheduled us,” one says. “But they thought we said Tunis, Africa—not Nice, France.”
Commenters flooded the videos with a mix of sympathy and disbelief. “You should be embarrassed at the number of things you just didn’t read to catch this problem earlier,” one user wrote. Others were baffled by how they managed to pass through multiple security checks and boarding gates without realizing the error.
“They didn’t board the wrong flight—they bought the wrong ticket,” another person noted. “The flight crew confirmed their ticket matched the destination.”
Still, some viewers took the twist in stride. “Honestly, you should’ve just rolled with it,” one commenter suggested. “Tunisia’s beautiful—explore a little before heading to France!”
