Bitterly cold this weekend as we prepare for snow and day 13 in-a-row of below-freezing temperatures in the Twin Tiers

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Yet another clipper system moves into the Tiers Friday. And just like all of the others, it will again bring bitterly cold temperatures and widespread light snow.

This week’s Arctic blast follows the light snow that will blanket the area to the tune of only 1-4″, with the higher totals staying in the higher elevations – with extremely cold wind chills Friday night and carrying over into Sunday morning.

When is the warm up? It may be on the way, but confidence remains low for that over the next seven days. Models try to square the circle and we are going to stay positive and keep our fingers crossed under our mittens until then. In the meantime, the snow chances are on the way and the weekend is looking disrespectful and bitterly cold.

Highs start off below average in the first place and the clipper drags with is dangerously cold air and winds from the north and northwest that will top 30 to 35mph. That may lead to cold weather related advisories… again – mainly in the overnight temps this weekend, feeling like -25° to -15°.

Bundle up! Temperatures will be in the single digits and that is without the wind chills landing in the -25 °to -15° for Friday and Saturday.

From Monday into the end of next week, temperatures will try to claw their way back towards near normal – which is 34°, but chances are low for getting too much above freezing.
