‘Drunk’ Passenger Takes off His Clothes Mid-Flight and Reportedly Tries To Jump from Plane

Plane passengers on an AirAsia flight last week were met with an unexpected interruption as a fellow customer stripped down to his underwear mid-flight.

The incident occurred last Thursday, Jan. 29, on Thai AirAsia flight 647 from Vietnam to Thailand, Viral Press reported. The Airbus A320 departed the Cam Ranh International Airport at 12:19 p.m. local time, heading towards the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, according to FlightAware. The trip was set to last just under two hours.

During the flight, passengers reported that one of their fellow customers became agitated and began to storm up and down the aisle of the aircraft, per Viral Press. The man reportedly began to tear off his clothes and allegedly demanded to be let off the aircraft. One eyewitness, Piaporn Chamsrio, described the passenger as “drunk” and called the situation a “thrilling incident.”

“I have flown hundreds, if not thousands, of times and have never encountered anything like this,” they said.

Footage taken on board shows the bearded man after he stripped down to his navy briefs. In the clips, he is seen confronting airline crew and other passengers.

“Flight attendants told him to sit down, but he refused,” Chamsrio said. “I felt very sorry for the crew on this trip because they worked incredibly hard.”

They added: “I was sitting about two rows away from him, and the smell of alcohol was very strong. I was about to vomit. To make matters worse, he jumped down from the plane, which was quite high.”

When the plane landed, the man barged through the open door and onto the waiting stair truck outside, according to Viral Press. The man subsequently tumbled on the steps, per the outlet.

Additional footage from the scene shows the man on the tarmac standing next to a truck. Aviation authorities quickly surrounded him before he jumped into the bed. The video then shows another clip of the passenger attempting to evade the authorities and slide underneath the vehicle.

The customer reportedly sustained a leg injury while trying to flee. The man was apprehended by authorities and placed into the truck, per Viral Press.

“In the end, he was injured but did not learn his lesson, as he tried to crawl under a vehicle. It must have been hot because he quickly crawled back out,” Chamsrio said.

They added, “I have sympathy for everyone on the plane except this man. Enough is enough with this kind of behavior.”

Thai AirAsia did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
