Lakers’ LeBron James Reflects on Bronny Scoring First Career Points in NBA
The Los Angeles Lakers dropped their second straight game on Wednesday, getting blown off the court by the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was over pretty much from the start as Los Angeles trailed big early on in the game.
The final score came in at 134-110 as Cleveland dominated on their home floor. But within this game, rookie guard Bronny James scored his first career points.
He saw five minutes of game action and was able to finally put up some statistics. James scored two points, had two assists, and one steal during his time on the court.
Being able to score his first career points in the NBA in Cleveland meant the world to James. The hometown kid spoke about this after the fact.
“It was insane,” Bronny said of the reception after finishing with 2 points, 2 assists and 1 steal in five minutes. “Much more than I anticipated for sure. But it’s all love. It was insane. It was a nice moment. The chants really got me. I was straight-faced, but I felt it and it felt really good, especially coming from here. Yeah, it was a special moment for me for sure.”
The city of Cleveland started chanting for James to enter the game midway through the third quarter. Cleveland still has love for the entire James family after LeBron James was able to deliver them a title in 2016.
The former Cavaliers star also spoke after the game and reflected on his son scoring his first career points in the league.
“He’s better than I would have been in that situation — 20,000 fans screaming my name to get in the game and wanting me to be in the game, and if the role’s reversed, I don’t know if I would have been able to handle it,” said LeBron, who scored 26 points but had six turnovers as he lost in Cleveland as an opponent for only the third time in 12 games. “To see him get his first NBA basket in this arena where he grew up not too far away from here, it’s an unbelievable moment. An unbelievable moment for him, first of all. For our family. It’s just pretty cool to be a part of it.”
While the Lakers would have liked to get the win, Bronny getting his first career points is something special. Los Angeles had been waiting for this moment and now they can fully focus on the rest of the season.
