Deloitte to ramp up India operations with 50,000 new hires

Professional services company Deloitte plans to significantly expand its workforce in India by opening new locations in the country.

The company plans to hire around 50,000 more employees in India and is assessing Mangaluru, a city in Karnataka, as a potential site for future growth.

The plan was shared by Deloitte South Asia CEO Romal Shetty while speaking at TiEcon Mangaluru 2026, reported financial news platform Moneycontrol.

Shetty was quoted by the publication as saying: “Deloitte has 140,000 people in the country. One in every four Deloitte employees in the world is in India or is an Indian. We will hire about 50,000 more people.

“We came very close to Mangaluru. Mangaluru has talent. We will come to Mangaluru, no doubt, it is only a question of time.”

He said India continues to hold a significant position in the global capability centre (GCC) landscape, with 50% of all global GCCs located in India.

“There is still a lot of potential here, especially from a Tier II and Tier III city point of view,” Shetty added, indicating that subsequent phases of GCC expansion are likely to involve emerging Tier II and Tier III cities.

As part of his proposal for enabling faster GCC rollouts, Shetty called for the development of digital economic zones that integrate GCCs, GPU (graphics processing unit)-based data centres, start-ups and academic institutions within plug-and-play infrastructure.

“Opening a GCC can take six months, but it should take only two weeks,” he said, calling for a reduction in friction in setting up operations.

He also pointed to infrastructure-related constraints, especially in relation to energy and water needs for data centres.

At the same time, he noted that Mangaluru offers factors such as talent availability and real estate.

Deloitte has also made a series of leadership appointments in international markets. Last month, Deloitte Ireland announced the appointment of Aziz Ahmad and Vikram Kunnath as partners to strengthen its consultative businesses. Deloitte Romania named Razvan Ungureanu as the new partner-in-charge of its Audit and Assurance practice, effective December 2025.

“Deloitte to ramp up India operations with 50,000 new hires” was originally created and published by International Accounting Bulletin, a GlobalData owned brand.
